Propulsion Crew 1999

Crew Chief Matt Bennett will lead the effort to put the simplest, most efficient propulsion system into Phantom III in the coming school year.

Goals for the '99-'00 Year

"Propulsion: The goal of the propulsion design team for the coming year will be to model, design, test, construct, and implement a fully optimized propulsion system to be assembled into the Phantom III hull. This design is being pursued by six Mechanical Engineering seniors as a senior design project, however, any students on the Human Powered Submarine team are welcome to attend the design meetings and offer their ideas and inputs. The final design must be efficient, robust, reliable, and elegant. Students working on this team should have an interest in mechanical design, hydrodynamics, propeller design, and materials among other areas. The design process will expose the students to outside resources as available including rapid prototyping, wind tunnel testing, and computer simulation.
