Phantom II and the VT HPS team traveled to Maryland to test the sub the weekend of May 21-23, 1999. Disappointments abounded on Saturday, the first day of testing. However, on Sunday, piloted by Mike Fetsch and powered by Justin Hlavin, the sub broke the three knot barrier, with a run of 19.37 seconds over a course of 100 feet! Other good runs of about 20 seconds were recorded as well.  The sub also had the chance to complete a maneuvering course, recording a time of about a minute.  Two other subs, both of high school teams sponsored by the Navy, recorded good times as well. Congratulations to all the divers, both inside and out of the sub, and to all the topside support crew!

Here are some video clips from The Great Weekend. Thanks very much to Dave Toomey, David Ferro, and Ron Callis. Enjoy! However, please be warned that the quality of these clips is not wonderful. They are greatly compressed (88MB to 6MB) so that your modem time would not be prohibitive to your viewing them. I apologize for the quality, but hope you enjoy the brief download time.  The clips are in real audio format, so if you don't have a version of Real Player that will let you see them, the stills pages further below might be a better option.
